still in shock from learning that Grant McLennan died this weekend, in his sleep at his home in Brisbane. horribly sad. one of my favorite songwriters ever, i was starstruck when i got to meet him at the Livid Festival when Superchunk played down there back in the 90's, and had the pleasure of opening a show for the go-betweens reformed at maxwell's. the guy wrote classics and was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic in our brief interactions... just sad, don't know what else to say about it.

here is an obit on the go-between's website, and the heartbroken (and some heartbreaking) testimonials are piling up there on the message boards.

Very sad stuff, indeed. Not the biggest Go-Betweens fan, but that's mostly due to just not hearing all that much of their stuff. Grant's Horsebreaker Star was one of my favorite records of the '90s.

Great job on Who Loves the Sun, by the way.

It is truly sad. I was surprised to learn that Grant was the same age as I am. I was also very excited with the release of the new record and the recent reissue of the older ones with all those bonus tracks. I thought maybe we would be treated to a few more years of Go-Betweens stuff. Unfortunately this is not to be.
